Light Migration

Last night showed a small amount of bird migration.
©2004

It looks similar to the past few nights. Winds are light (~5 kts) and from the southwest, and we see some activity just after sunset, some of it likely due to anomalous propagation. But when looking at the velocity plot, the major direction of movement is from west to east at 15-20 kts, a pattern characteristic of migrating birds (namely moving in a different direction and at greater than 10 kts faster than the prevailing wind).
