Migration in the Midst of Gaston

The short and sweet: The cold front has moved across our area while tropical storm Gaston has countered from the southeast, effectively reducing migration over the region. Some birds can be seen entering the radar after sunset and continuing into the early morning, but the feeder bands of precipitation from Gaston seem to stifle any major movement. Still, inland sites could be a bit birdier today due to the localized shutdown. What does this mean for the future? Well, the cold front is expected to move offshore today and winds will be blowing out of the northwest, which would open up the eastern flyway for good migration tonight. No weather is expected for tomorrow morning, so best bets would probably be the coastal hotspots like Higbee’s beach. I’ve provided both radar loops from our region because of the impressive view of Gaston, best seen from the DE site.
