Light Migration Over NJ

Interesting weather this evening prompted me to post the current radar. The base reflectivity image covers the time from sunset until 10:30pm, and shows a low level of migration currently in progress. The velocity image shows the birds are moving in a SW to NE direction. Because migration levels appear to be low for our area, and the areas south and west of us, no major fallout conditions are currently expected for tomorrow.

Morning Update

Here’s the radar from 10:45pm last night until sunrise this morning. It looks like a very small migration event occurred last night until just after 1:00am when the wind switched from the south to the north. Watch the velocity plot to really see the wind switch- it’s pretty cool! I’d be interested to hear how the bird composition at Garrett Mountain today compares to the last few days…any takers?
