Rain Rain Rain, and not a bird in sight

Here’s the radar from sunset last night through 5:00am.

Frames are every 1/2 hour for reflectivity and velocity, and every hour for the regional composite. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized animation.

Stormy weather associated with the arriving cold front made for terrible migration conditions, despite the southerly winds. Additionally, winds were more northeasterly over the Carolinas and Virginia, which precluded anything from entering our area from the south. On the composite image you can see migration occurred north of the front, across the Northeastern US. On the Fort Dix radar only a tiny pulse of birds could be seen heading north just after sunset, suggesting that today’s birding conditions should be rather similar to yesterday’s.

Good Birding
