Moderate migration into light headwind

Here’s the radar from 7:00pm last night through 5:00am this morning.

While I had expected south winds to keep birds down, the radar indicates that the winds were too light to thwart migration over the mid-Atlantic. All radars showed some level of migration last night, with the bulk of movement over the southern half of NJ. It’ll be interesting to see what reports come in from the field. Tonight expect northwest winds to trigger heavy migration into the region, and improve birding conditions for tomorrow morning.

Good Birding

One response to “Moderate migration into light headwind”

  1. Kind of slow at Palmyra, but I got a late start with a group. There were birds around in small numbers which I presume came in last night.
Here’s some of what we had:
    1 TENNESSEE WARBLER
    1 BLACK-THROATED BLUE
    1 BLACK-THROATED GREEN
    2 CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS
    3 MAGNOLIAS
    2 REDSTARTS
    4 COMMON YELLOWTHROATS
I believe 17 species of warbler around Palmyra from other birders. Numbers were low.
