Moderate migration over Jerze

North winds, a big chill, and clear skies triggered another night of migration over the mid-Atlantic last night. Here’s the radar from 7:00pm last night through 5:00am this morning.

After several nights of heavy migration, last night was a bit smaller in terms of magnitude. That’s typical simply because there are less birds ready to move on in the later days of a good push. That said, there are plenty of birds around, and this latest movement will favor inland migrant traps. Additionally, with north winds today along the interior ridges we could definitely see some nice late fall raptors including Golden Eagles and Northern Goshawks.

Good Birding

Cape May Point. Didn’t make the morning flight, but here’s what I had on the ground. In order of numbers:
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS
SWAMP SPARROWS
BLUE JAYS
PALM WARBLERS
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS
WINTER WRENS
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS
BROWN THRASHERS
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES
PIPITS
BLUE-HEADED VIREOS
I am forgetting some species, but this gives an idea. No Thrushes though. I miss them on the ground even when they are around.
