Nice flight into the Mid-Atlantic

The low pressure system offshore and to our south, has acted as a barrier to southbound migrants. Here’s the radar from 6:00pm on Thursday night through 6:00am this morning (Friday).

Frames are every 1/2 hour. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized animation.

I know, it was a little bit late today… a night of BRUCE, and then a full day of teaching, meant no time to post the radar 🙁 Sorry.

Birds were on the move, though, as the radar clearly indicated. You can see the storm system moving up the Delmarva Peninsula, and bringing with it plenty of rain and wind to act as a barrier to migration out of the Mid-Atlantic. To our north, though, conditions were much better, and birds could be seen leaving the Northeast and heading from the NW->SE. New arrivals were apparent on the NYC and both NJ radars. I haven’t check today’s reports, but I would suspect good densities of birds at most Fall migrant traps.

Good Birding
