A few more birds head south

Sorry this is such a late post, my ftp client died on me. Here’s the radar from sunset last night through 6:00am this morning.

Frames are every 1/2 hour. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized animation.

Light and variable winds around the Great Lakes allowed for some light and variable southbound migration over western NY state and points south. Light southbound movement could therefore be seen over the Buffalo and Albany NY radars, while all of the more coastal sites showed a mix of northbound targets (aka stuff blowing with the wind) and a precious few southbound ones (essentially birds flying into a light headwind). Similar to yesterday’s radar, eastern NY registered little to no southbound flight, while both the NJ and DE radars suggested a very light movement.

As I said yesterday, I think the bulk of what’s to come over the next few nights will come through on Monday night (into Tuesday morning) when the latest front finally clears and strong high pressure (read: northwest winds) build in behind it.

Good Birding

David
