More widespread migration underway

I’m heading out on a 16-hour pelagic trip leaving from Wildwood Crest at midnight tonight- so I won’t be able to post the radar tomorrow (Sunday) morning. I did want to let you know, though, that we’re currently experiencing another big flight tonight. Here’s the latest national composite taken at 9:11pm eastern time:

As you can see the Central, Mississippi and Eastern flyways are all lit up with birds tonight. Locally we have an easterly component to the winds which will keep the major axis of the migration event inland of the coast, but with the density we’re seeing on the radar tonight you can bet that there will be birds at all of the spring hotspots tomorrow morning. Best bets for overall density will be inland locations.

Good Birding!

  1. I wish I could say migrants at Long Bridge Park in Burlington County this morning, but we didn’t have much! I was hoping the foggy weather would keep stuff down and inland also, but no! Maybe Monday.
