Little movement into the Midwest

National overview

A mix of systems pushing across the US created a mosaic of patchy migration last night. Most of the activity was concentrated in the southern and southeastern parts of the country, with little influx into the Midwest and Great Lakes regions.

Below are the radar loops from sunset last night through 5:00am (central time) this morning

Upper Midwest

All was quiet throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin last night as NW winds built in behind the passing front. You can see from the radar that they only thing visible last night was some early precipitation.

Iowa & Illinois

Same goes for Illinois and northern Iowa, with only a small push of birds very early on in the evening before NW winds shut it down. Parks around Chicago’s lakefront hold the best chance of some early arrivals but otherwise expect little to no concentrations of new migrants.

As always, woodcreeper.com depends on you to report your sightings and be our ‘eyes on the ground’, so please come back and give us an idea of how we’re doing predicting birding conditions in your neck of the woods.

Good Birding,

David
