National overview

The front continues to push eastward and shrink the zone of migration into the Southeastern US. Some light migration was also apparent over south Texas, where strong northwest winds have slacked off to fairly calm and variable, and in the west where southerly flow triggered migration across all coastal states.

Northeast winds over much of the Upper Midwest kept birds down once again. Little-to-no migration was evident over either Duluth or the Twin Cities radar stations. Expect birding conditions to be consistent from yesterday.

Northeast winds were present late last night, transitioning to more westerly flow by morning as another low pressure system skirted southern Wisconsin. Unfortunately the wind switch was too-little-too-late and failed to trigger any significant migration over Wisconsin. A few new birds may be evident in the southern third of the state but otherwise expect conditions to be consistent with yesterday.

Iowa & Illinois

Only a few birds moving over IA and IL last night with a short-lived pulse of migrants just after sunset settling back down around midnight. Those birds that did move were headed to the NE which might mean a few birds along the Chicago lakefront this morning. Otherwise conditions should have changed very little from previous days.

As always, woodcreeper.com depends on you to report your sightings and be our ‘eyes on the ground’, so please come back and give us an idea of how we’re doing predicting birding conditions in your neck of the woods.

Good Birding,

David
