… N’awlin’s music, to be specific. Do you love it? Does it make you tap your feet, or get you out of your seat and make you dance spontaneously? Well it does to me… and I’m totally getting my fix on http://www.radiofreeneworleans.com. In a time when very little comes cheap, this online station is a welcome find. Of course, you can also create your own personalized stations on Pandora Radio which I also find quite useful and fun (and free!).

Good listening on this rainy day

Last Saturday…

I was photographing our annual Run For The Woods fundraiser at the Frank G. Helyar Woods (part of the Rutgers Gardens). I love this guy’s display of school spirit! If you can’t read the writing on the paper pinned to his shirt- it says “IMUS SUCKS”

On another note…

the Onion has crossed over into birding culture with this fantastic critique of the Sibley Guide. Thanks to Chris Vogel for bringing this to my attention.

I’m going to be the teaching assistant for Field Ornithology this coming spring, and in an attempt to find some new teaching resources I have recently been introduced to the online Macaulay Library of Sound and Video, located at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (thanks Karl!). This is an awesome resource! I was able to find the subspecies of the Seaside Sparrow which I study in Florida by searching for the latin name down to the subspecific epithet (Ammodramus maritimus mirabilis). By using the free RavenViewer software (just click on “visualize” instead of “listen” when you are given the choice, and follow the instructions for installing it) you can view the real-time spectrogram and waveform as the sound file plays…this is very very cool!

I can’t wait to show our students!!!
