No significant nocturnal migration last night

Here’s the radar from sunset last night through 5:00am this morning.

Frames are every 1/2 hour for reflectivity and velocity, and every hour for the regional composite. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized animation.

With winds out of the northeast over the region last night, birds again decided to stay put. The composite image shows that more favorable conditions to our north and west allowed birds to circumnavigate the Mid-Atlantic. Big pushes were evident on the radars over western Pennsylvania and throughout New York state. Conditions for our region are expected to improve over the next few days, and birding conditions are still wonderful across the region (many migrating herons, passerine arrivals from last week, loons and waterfowl, etc.). If you want a taste of things to come, visit Badbirdz – Reloaded and the new Feathered Pixel, a radar/migration site run by the Jackson Mississippi Audubon.

Good Birding

  1. Amazingly a Glossy Ibis appeared at the Celery Farm (Bergen) today–very rare here and by far a record-early arrival for CF!
