Big migration over Jerze

Southwest winds on the leading edge of a cold front, are to thank for the recent influx of birds into New Jersey. Here’s the radar from sunset last night through 7:00am this morning.

Frames are every 1/2 hour for reflectivity and velocity, and every hour for the regional composite. Click on the thumbnail to view the full-sized animation.

Heavy migration was evident over New Jersey for most of last night and early this morning. Most of the movement was on a SW–>NE trajectory, and only northern New Jersey experienced significant precipitation enough to cause localized fallouts. If anyone near Garret Mountain noticed thunderstorms before sunrise, the birding there this morning could be awesome. Either way, spring migrant traps across the state should be very good this morning, and areas in the north and northwest part of the state could be experiencing some localized fallout conditions.

Make sure you stop back and let us know what you’re seeing out there!

Good Birding

David

One response to “Big migration over Jerze”

  1. Sent an e-mail to Jerseybirds so you probably saw that report. Blackpolls were very numerous but overall birds were few and far between except for an hour and 15 minutes when we had about 50 individual birds feeding in a flowering Black Cherry tree inc. 9 sp. of warbler inc. Orange-crowned and late RC Kinglet.
