Migration over Jersey

Alright! This is more like it. Here’s the radar from sunset last night through around 3:30am this morning (at which point either the radar feed or the Rutgers server crapped out, I’m still not sure).

The radar shows some heavy migration over the Garden State last night, as was also the case for the rest of the country, from the mid-west to the eastern shore. Although recent reports of arriving Neotropical migrants have been rare as far south as Virginia, we should expect the arrival of new species with this wave, and especially with the waves to follow in the next two nights as favorable conditions persist.
No precipitation last night to concentrate birds, but all migration hotspots should produce some good birding this morning.

Good Birding! :)

One Response to Migration over Jersey

  1. David says:

The woods were alive this morning, but I couldn’t turn up any new species. More Field Sparrows singing in the fields, Am. Goldfinches everywhere singing, Towhees, Downy Woodpeckers, and Northern Flickers all calling/singing incessantly; and all the chickadees this morning were Carolina, as compared to the almost total Black-capped (with one singing Carolina) several days ago.
