Migration over Jerze…south Jerze that is!

Don’t get too excited by the images, they really don’t show much migration over central Jersey. The radar from VA to Dover, PA (which covers the Bayshore and south Jersey) showed distinct migration last night. The Fort Dix radar showed a mishmash of radar noise and a little bit of migration. Good news for the bayshore, bad news for central and northern New Jersey (although there are still plenty of birds around). Anyway, this one will need some ground truthing- so I’m off to Belleplain! (oh the lengths I will go to make you happy! ;))

Good Birding!

  1. Black-throated Greens, Least flycatcher,Black-Throated Blue,Veery, Eastern WoodPeewee, Wood Thrush,Ovenbird, Magnolia Warbler, Black and White Warbler
Theses birds in a small wooded wetland behind our house in Central New Jersey, SW Middlesex County to be exact. There definitely was movement into Central NJ because these birds were not here yesterday and in fact 3 of them we haven’t had here before. Probably a good migration in other inland areas. We shoulda gone to Garrett Mtn. Foiled again by the weather gods !

  2. This radar was weird. I wasn’t expecting migrants at all today, but a friend and I had a lot down in Belleplain. Some of these numbers are estimates: 5 BLACK-THROATED GREENS, 2 BLACK-THROATED BLUES, 2 MAGNOLIAS, 1 REDSTART, 4 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH (from another birder – quite possibly many more in talking to yet another birder!), 1 CANADA, 1 CHESTNUT-SIDED, 2 PARULA, 25 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, 3 ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS, etc. I wonder if it would have been good at Garret – I am not sure, as always told that any kind of east wind drives the birds inland from there. I think Stuart and Wendy did well to stay where they were!
